Almost ready to go to Louisiana

Finishing sewing projects, getting ready for craft show and packing to go south.  Here are a few pictures of some of the things I've been working on.  Also making 17 crocheted headbands for Jessica's VB team to wear in the big Christmas parade they're going to be in on Monday the 29th.  Have four done, so will be crocheting in the car and probably every minute I get to sit down!!!!
Here is a fleece outfit I've started for Renee.  Will finish it after I get there, so the sleeves will be the right length and put snaps on there.  Hopefully, the jacket won't be too big. Don't have any childrens hangers, so using a big hanger, makes it look bigger.
Then I've also been sewing some table runners.  These that are hanging aren't done yet, but the pictures gives you an idea of what they look like.  This is called a 10 minute project.  NOT!  But after I got the hang of it, the sewing of seams probably only took 10 minutes.  Need to but material,  iron seams, etc.  - so cancel out the 10 minute title!
Actually you need to look at this sideways.....  It's a front door winter scene.
Still need to do a decorative stitching across the bottom, and add button at the seam.  I made a red one like this one for Miss Sandra in LA  (Jessica's MOL).  This is actually a gold, but doesn't show up that way.  I have several more to make with dark green .  They will be pretty too.

Will get you some pictures tonight after we set up for the craft show.  Then tomorrow the show is from 9 am to 3 pm, and then I have to get home quickly to get the dogs to the groomer/hotel by 5 pm.  They love going there, so we sure won't have to worry about them.  Give Leah and Connie a break from taking care of our dogs!

We've decided now to leave Sat evening because it's suppose to snow Sat night.  This way we should be ahead of the storm!

I've been so busy getting ready for craft show, etc. that I haven't blogged all week, and next week won't be any different.  Every time I got busy with crafting, etc. Steve would call me from the garage, needing help.  So I felt like I got interrupted a lot, but he can't hold and nail at the same time, or fit big pieces up to the wall when a plug in outlet needed to be pulled through the hole he cut, etc. etc.  Will finish painting the last two inside walls when we get home.  Have a great Thanksgiving everyone.  Don't eat too much!  Talk to you all when I get back.  jo

Veterans Day 2010

A Veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check payable to the United States of America for an amount up to, and including, their life.  That is beyond honor and there are way too many people in this country who no longer remember that fact!

We have a wonderful memoral in our town that honors soldiers of all the wars our men and women have been in.  As you walk up to the memorial, it starts with pavers that donors have bought in honor of family members with their names, what branch of the armed forces they were in and dates.  Some families have gone together and put all family members on a large paver.  I thought that was a great idea.  There are also granite benches that have names etc. on them.   In the summer time, there are flowers planted in planters. This is one way the money was earned to build this beautiful memorial.

You'll notice that each pillar shows the dates of the start and end of that war; the number of soldiers that served; the number that were killed in action; and the number of prisioners of war there were.  Today there will be a ceremony here at the memorial with changing of the flags.  I plan to be there.  I think most of us have family members that have served or are serving now.  It always brings tears to my eyes when I hear the taps played.

I was there with Leah, Jessica and the grandkids when this was dedicated in 2003, and there were jets flying overhead in formation during the ceremony.  At that time, I did get a very good picture with the flags and the jets together in the photo.  I really need to dig in to all my photos, and get them organized so I can find what I want when I need it!  The Vets are now trying to earn enough money to finish the learning center building that has been started.   Our kids don't learn about WWI and WWII in depth like we did in school, and the vision is to have a learning center where teachers can bring classes to learn more with movies, hands on exhibits and talking with Veterans themselves.

As a kid my younger sis and I would sell poppies all up and down Main Street, to help earn money for the Veterans.  I bet some of you also remember doing that.  I don't see that anymore.  Now there "may" be a jar by the cash register of "some" stores with poppies in another jar, waiting for people to donate.  I wonder if that has worked as well as people selling to neighbors and their friends.

If you have served in our armed forces, I thank you.  jo

8 Point Buck

Grandson Blake with his 8 point buck he got Sunday morning.  Mom and Dad (Leah) weren't home, so I thought I'd show you all this picture.  Looks like a nice big buck!  Good job Blake!
They live about 3 miles from us, so this could also be the same buck we've seen occasionally around here.
No snow for hunters to track deer, so it was nice that this buck went down with one shot.  We have this week and coming weekend for hunters yet to fill their tags.  Good luck to hunters that follow the rules!

Thanks Georgia!

I have a wonderful sister that sure loves me a lot!   Don't know why, as kids we picked at each other quite a bit, but as all siblings, we each have each others back.  Well, she has been shopping for the holidays early!!!! and guess what she got me!!!!   I now have the treasured "AccuGo" quilting cutter and will be using it soon.  As soon as I get all the things done for the craft show coming up.  I've been busy crocheting hats, and have been selling even before getting to the craft show, so have to keep crocheting more!  But thats good.
So real soon you'll be seeing what I've been busy doing with this wonderful gift!  It's like winning the lottery!
Table toppers coming for you sis.  Thanks, and love you,   jo

Renee Pebbles!

Cute as Pebbles Flintsone!  See the bone in her hair?   Pants a little long, but bet she'll wear this again.
Learning to make a "piggy face" for Grandpa Steve!

Daddy brought home a new kitten for Renee on Halloween morning!  Her name is Boo!

Jessica says Boo isn't afraid of Renee.  She sure is a cute kitten.
I've been busy outside the last couple of days.  Didn't get pictures taken, but will in the morning to show you what I've been doing.  My back is sore from all the shoveling!  I'm now in my way to bell practice.  Have a great evening everyone!
