Our daughter Jessica and hubby Floyd were at a great Mardis Gras gathering last night. I'd asked her to take pictures of the costume contest, but she wasn't sure she wanted to take her camera! Darn. Those costumes are so beautiful. Here is a sample of the contest, the year I was there.
There were a lot of other costumes too. They paraded around the dance floor and danced. Judges picked out winners for many different classes, and then they were in the parade the next day. I can't get over all the glitz and glammer of these big costumes. There was a Mr & Mrs and there was a long train that they pulled behind them. I wonder how much this all weighed? The weather has been so cold that the kids have not been to any parades this past weekend. Bet they'll go today if their weather is better.

Happy Mardi Gras to you, too, Jo! I have been to one Mardi Gras Ball in my life and it was AMAZING. The costumes and all the regalia that goes along with it is unbelievable. And those people spend all year long preparing for it. It's a BIG DEAL in Louisiana!

Yeah. It's Fat Tuesday. I've always thought it would be fun to see a Mardi Gras parade with all the colors and the wild characters in the parade too.
I was at a wedding celebration with a local from the Mardi Gras area. Schools evidently close during this week. He and his family were taking a cruise and leaving town - - not planning to come back until things return to normal.
I'll have to go check out the history of Mardi Gras. I honestly don't know all that much about it. Happy Mardi Gras to you too.
I have only seen the Mardi Gras on the TV. It looks like it would be so much fun to be there in person.
Those sure were beautiful costumes for sure.
