Going to the Birds!

We still have Canadian Geese coming in to our corn field every night to eat now left over corn kernals.  Steve finally could combine his corn to feed to the pigs.  It was too wet to combine last fall, so we fed deer all winter long.  When he finally did combine last week, there was a lot of damaged corn cobs and a lot gone, but he still filled the grain bins with corn, so won't have to buy corn for awhile.
We also have two Sand Hill Cranes coming to our field every evening.  I didn't realize how big they really were, until I walked out to the field the other evening.  They weren't afraid of Hooch, but finally did fly to the other end of the field.  When I first walked out there, they had been in the corn,  then they walked south to a field that we'd dug last fall, and then when the geese started coming in, the cranes flew to the north end of the field.

Dang those are some whopping big cranes. Looks like they could have carried poor little Hooch off if they wanted - of course he would have put up quite a battle I'm sure. We had an awful lot of corn left in the fields here too after all those weeks of rain last fall keeping the ground too mushy to harvest.
